  • Yes, Sarahbean is my actual name! After 25+ years as a nickname, I made it official.

    Here's why I love it: it reminds me that we're all in this together, floating in the same wild soup called life.

    And let's be real - this soup is getting pretty intense lately. Parents are navigating things our own parents never dreamed of: a post-pandemic world, the digital age, rising anxiety in kids, constant pressure to "do it all," climate worries, school safety concerns, and an economy that keeps us doing acrobatics.

    But here's the beautiful thing: just like beans nourish the bod and make soup richer, we make each other stronger. My role? I'm here to help you find your way through these uncharted seas, one small step at a time.

  • The term "superdelight" was born from a dream that aligned perfectly with Mary Ainsworth's pioneering Strange Situation study from the 1970s (a decade of magnificent aesthetics), where "delight" was actually used as a scientific measurement of parent-child attachment. This groundbreaking research elevated moments of genuine joy between caregivers and children from simply pleasant experiences to significant indicators of secure attachment bonds. This intersection—where measurable delight meets attachment science—forms the heart of the Superdelight approach to parenting.

  • Parent Coaching —and Sarahbean’s coaching approach— is a mixture of education (child development, nervous system science, parenting styles, communication skills, and practical application of these things into your daily life) & the process of growth: identifying your values, goals, strengths and obstacles, and designing accountability plans to meet your goals, with non-judgmental guidance and collaboration.
    Therapy is short for “psychotherapy” and is based on a medical model of diagnosis and treatment of mental health challenges. If behaviors and symptoms are impacting your daily functioning or making life unmanageable, these are issues to bring to therapy. Sarahbean provides therapy to residents of massachusetts. A Little Story…

Children are the epicenter of my life’s Work.

✦✹✦

And yet, in the beginning of my career as a teaching artist, I had very little experience with them.

I adored art, had a brand-new degree in printmaking, and could make a modest living as an after-school art instructor to young Elementary-age children.

So that’s where I ended up, just little ol’ me and a bunch of children who looked different from me, tossed together in a classroom off of 47th and Baltimore in West Philadelphia.

It started with a simple project on our last day of the session: t-shirts and fabric markers. I told the children they could draw anything they wanted; these shirts were theirs to keep. 

A little boy, maybe six years old, drew a gun shooting a person: 

B A N G.

Then there was the time I asked the children to lie on large sheets of paper while I traced around their little bodies. I offered an array of art supplies and invited the children to make their figures come alive.

A timid, tiny child took my instructions to heart and drew herself wearing every vivid color in the rainbow. Around her throat she drew a big circle and, in that circle, she’d scribbled in heavy letters: 

L O U D.

I asked what it meant to her, and she whispered hesitantly, “sometimes I just wish I was loud.”

Moments like these culminated in the defining realization of my life:

Children aren’t just noise-makers. They are

C O M M U N I C A T O R S.

They contain vast and complex internal landscapes and it is our job, our duty, and my personal destiny, to listen to them. 

To get on their level 

and really 

Listen.


The actual work that is true for me, down to my bones, is the experience of being with young children in all their creative self-expression, big feelings and endless wonder.

So that’s what I do, regardless of which outfit I happen to be wearing: whether I am in a play therapy session with you and your child, or coaching you through a challenging moment, it’s all about being with, and it’s all about empowering our youngest world citizens.
